DoD Forecast

The TechAmerica Foundation Vision Conference showcases the most comprehensive analysis of the future direction of Defense and Federal IT budgets available. By 2021 we expect the U. S. defense budget to be at a level where we were in 2002 and 2003. The Operations & Maintenance (O&M) budget shows major declines due to the reductions in Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) funding as the Afghanistan draw down becomes very pronounced in 2012-13. (Note forecast on this chart is in constant dollars, i.e. inflation is removed; the dotted red line indicates the current dollar forecast, i.e. includes inflation.)

Federal IT Forecast

Our forecasts are recognized as the industry standard for predicting federal budget trends. We provide in-depth agency IT forecasts, including Defense by service. All agency presentations contain a chart detailing future budget trends. (Note forecast on this chart is in current dollars, i.e. includes inflation)

Federal IT Forecast Assumptions

After examining the inhibitors and drivers, we concluded that despite the downward pressures, IT needs across government will result in conservative IT budget growth in 2011-2016. Growth is driven primarily by increasing demand for better and more efficient government services and the need for long-term IT investments in order to contain the costs of delivering those services.
