Vice President, Strategy & Business Capture
Boeing Defense, Space & Security
Tom Bell is the vice president of Strategy & Business Capture for Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS). In this capacity, he leads the team responsible for facilitating and driving BDS decisions on business strategy, adjacent market efforts, competitive assessments, mergers and acquisitions, and business capture activities. He was named to this position in January 2011.
Prior to this assignment, Bell was vice president of Business Development for Boeing Military Aircraft (BMA), a business unit of BDS, where he oversaw all aspects of strategy, sales, and customer relations for the organization which encompasses Boeing’s fixed wing, rotor wing, unmanned systems, and weapons solutions. Before leading Business Development for BMA, he was vice president of Business Development for Global Services & Support, BDS’ Logistics, training, and services Business Unit.
Bell joined the company in 1988 in the Contracts and Pricing division. There, he served in a variety of positions involving the capture of new international business and the negotiation of successful agreements with foreign governments and industries. In 1991, he joined the Business Development division, first in the Industrial Participation department, then stationed in Helsinki, Finland for four years.
Bell returned to St. Louis in 1996 as the St. Louis-based manager of Business Development for the Nordic Region. In 1998, he was selected to participate in the Boeing Executive Development Program in Seattle. In 1999, he relocated to the United Kingdom as the president of operations for Boeing Aerospace UK, Ltd. As such, he was the senior-most Boeing executive in the UK, leading all aspects of the company’s UK strategy and government relations.
Prior to 1988, he was employed by Lockheed Martin in New Orleans.
Bell holds a bachelors degree in sociology and business from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, and a master’s degree in business administration from the Florida Institute of Technology, with a concentration in international contracts.
