Washington, DC (May 11, 2011) – TechAmerica Foundation’s Board of Directors today announced that the Honorable Robert F. Bennett, former U.S. Senator from Utah, has been appointed as Chairman of its Board. As Chairman, Senator Bennett will work with policymakers and technology leaders across the country to continue to build on the Foundation’s mission to educate executives, policymakers, and the public on how technological innovation can advance prosperity, security, and the general welfare.
“Senator Bennett is a highly successful entrepreneur and bipartisan policymaker with a well-established background in both the technology industry and government. He will provide a strong vision for the TechAmerica Foundation, along with a deep knowledge of our industry and the unique challenges and opportunities we face in the 21st century innovation economy,” said Timothy E. Guertin, President & Chief Executive Officer, Varian Medical Systems, Inc. and a Member of TechAmerica Foundation’s Board of Directors. “We are thrilled to have such an accomplished, influential, and highly respected national leader devoting so much of his time and energy to the Foundation. We are confident that his thought leadership on technology policy and global economic issues will have a profound impact on our entire industry.”
Senator Bennett has a proven track record of running a business. Prior to his distinguished career in the United States Senate, he served as the CEO of Franklin Quest, Inc. where he was a founding shareholder. One of his great passions has been the process of growing new opportunities into mature and developed business enterprises. He has been a key participant in multiple private and publicly held companies. Senator Bennett sees clearly the inter-dependence of private enterprise and an expanding national economy.
The Senator served as the senior member of both the Senate Banking Committee and the Joint Economic Committee. As such, he has been an active participant in forming national economic policy over the course of several years. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Bennett worked to balance fiscal discipline in government with the needs of maintaining a vital national economy.
He understands the nation’s economy and is intimately familiar with the inner workings of our government’s fiscal process. In addition, Senator Bennett served as a senior member of the Senate Republican Leadership Team and is the former Chairman of the Senate Republican High-Tech Task Force. He has received numerous awards from the technology industry throughout his years of public service.
“This is a committed group that works with some of the most innovative companies in the world,” said Senator Bennett. “I am honored to serve as Chairman of the Board and look forward to help the Foundation achieve its mission to advance U.S. global competitiveness and enhance the public’s understanding of innovation’s role in our economy and society.”
The nine-member Board provides the direction and strategic objectives of the TechAmerica Foundation as the Foundation educates industry executives, policymakers, and opinion leaders on the promise of technological innovation to advance prosperity, security, and the general welfare.
