Highlights of What’s Inside…

  • The U.S. tech industry employed 6.2 million people as of June 2013.
  • The tech industry grew by over 100,000 jobs in the first six months of 2013, a 1.7 percent increase. This compares with a 1.8 percent increase for the same period in 2012.
  • Tech employment growth in the first half of 2013 was driven by software services (+40,000) and engineering and tech services (+51,400) between January and June.
  • Technology manufacturing and communications services also both added jobs in the first six months of 2013, adding 3,500 and 8,400 respectively.
  • Over the 18-month period examined, the tech industry added 221,300 jobs from January 2012 to June 2013, a 3.7 percent increase.
